Corporate Social Responsibility

IGE Myanmar is committed to contributing to Myanmar’s development, driving positive change in the communities we operate in, and ultimately seeking to create shared valued with long-term benefits. We embrace corporate social responsibility (CSR) as an integral part of our business practices and behaviour.

Our CSR framework covers a range of areas, including regional development, poverty alleviation, social welfare, healthcare, disaster relief and education; and are typically carried out in locations where we operate.

Micro-Finance Programs

IGE has provided financial assistance to support the creation of micro-finance programs in Hlae Gu Township, Yangon Division and Myaing Township, Magway Division. These programs allow community members to start small businesses and re-invest the proceeds in the program, thus allowing more community members to participate and ultimately improving the regional economy.

Community Assistance Projects

IGE invests in various community assistance projects in Mandalay Division, Tanintharyi Division, Yangon Division, Bago Division, Sagaing Division, Magway Division, Shan State, Kayin State, Rakhine State, Chin State, Kachin State and Kayar State.

Under these projects, IGE identifies and support specific communal needs such as digging wells, donating food and water, supporting cultural events and donating funds to local monasteries.

Disaster Relief

IGE has responded to natural disasters in Myanmar, including the 2008 Cyclone Nargis, by supplying clothes, food and necessary items to those in the affected regions. We have also provided tractors to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation of villages; and donated new buildings and funds to restore livelihoods and build shelters for victims of various floods in the Magway, Sagaing and Kalay region as well as Central Myanmar.

Primary School Construction

IGE regularly donates funds, construction materials and expertise to build primary schools in its operation areas, such as Paw Pa Saw Mya Village on the Myaing Gyi Ngu-Melthawall Road. We aim to focus our efforts on building vocational training centers to help improve the prospects of future generations.

Support for Monastic Education Centre

IGE provides various financial and volunteer support to Yangon Monastic Education Centre, which assists hundreds of orphaned children from conflict areas in Myanmar as well as those from poor families by providing food and clothing, professional medical care, and education. This includes the construction of a five-story building that provides accommodation for more than 200 children, outfitting it with beds, storage, and other facilities based on international standards for children’s homes.
