Projects

MRT currently focuses on value-added trading in the timber industry, with expertise in Burmese teak and Gurjan woods.  As such, MRT provides saw timber, plywood, veneer and other products fit for export, such as custom-made cabinets, furniture, framing, and decorative pieces. MRT is currently one of the top five timber exporters in Myanmar, both by volume and market share, and in both 2015 and 2016 led the market in terms of value. From 2004 to 2010, MRT had a total trading capacity of 59,000 HT.  Additionally, MRT’s factory capacity from 2015 to 2017 stands at 15,000 HT for its veneer mill and 7,000 HT for its sawmill.

Since its founding, MRT has exported to markets in India, Thailand, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Europe, such as the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy. In all international dealings, MRT strictly complies with government regulations and provides Chain of Custody (COC) certifications for all exports.

Future Plans

MRT is currently looking into opportunities to expand its business into two areas, the value-added timber market and the agriculture value chain. Going forward, in the next five years MRT is also planning to develop Burmese teak and Gurjan wood plantations to increase the sustainability of the trees.

Workforce

MRT employs a team of 634 full-time staff members across eight departments, including marketing, logistics,
production, finance, business development, cargo & transport, human resources, and administration. Safety and skills training seminars are provided to staff members every three months. Additional training is provided on an as-needed basis.
