IGE Power Company Limited

Overview

IGE Power is involved in the generation, transmission and distribution of power. ISO-certified, the company’s head office is located in Yangon with project sites in Nay Pyi Taw, Shan State and Rakhine State. Since IGE’s foray into the power business, IGE Power and affiliates have implemented over 200 projects power-related in Myanmar. IGE Power’s client includes the Ministry of Electric Power as well as private sector players.

Notable construction projects by IGE Power include excavation and tunnelling works at Thahtay Chaung and Upper Yeywa Hydropower Projects. In the transmission and distribution sector, IGE Power has experience in construction and electrical installation of substation projects up to 132kV. IGE Power is currently building up capacity to undertake construction and electrical installation of transmission line and substation projects for voltage levels up to 500kV.

Transmission and Distribution

IGE Power has a track-record for the electrical installation of substation up to 132 kV and aims to build Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) capability for the construction of transmission and distribution lines and substations up to 500kV. Apart from electrical installation, IGE Power is also able to undertake civil, logistics and other local works for transmission line and substation construction projects.

Independent Power Producer (IPP)

IGE Power invests as a local minority shareholder and develops power generation facilities as public-private partnership projects. Our existing investments are structured through Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) models.

Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC)

IGE Power is committed to contribute to a more sustainable future through the construction of hydropower and thermal power generation facilities. IGE Power is currently the main- and sub-EPC contractor for two hydropower projects which are key components of Myanmar’s National Electrification Plan.

Key Projects

Thahtay Chaung Hydropower Project

  • IGE Power is the EPC contractor for the Thahtay Chaung Hydropower Project located in Rakhine state, providing open cut excavation, slope protection and tunnelling services. The Thahtay Chaung Hydropower Project is expected to produce and feed 386 GWh of electricity into the national grid per year once operational. The project has been recognised by the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations for its successful excavation of large tunnel and shaft in a geologically risk region with the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award 2018.

Upper Yeywa Hydropower Project

  • IGE Power, in a joint venture with Razel Bec, is conducting open cut excavation, slope protection and tunnelling for the Upper Yeywa Hydropower Project located in Shan state. Targeted to complete in 2020, the project will produce about 1,409 GWh of electricity per year.

Electrical Equipment and Material Trading

IGE Power provides electrical products trading and services, such as transformers, switchgear and substations, to key public and private sector customers, including real estate developers and mechanical and engineering contractors/system integrators. IGE Power also aims to grow its electrical product trading and services business both in the government and private sector markets, alongside the projected growth of Myanmar’s GDP.

Operation and Maintenance

In line with our focus on building a sustainable future, IGE Power participates in the rehabilitation of hydropower and other aging power generation assets, such as gas turbines.
