International Power Generation Public Co., Ltd (IPG)

International Power Generation Public Co., Ltd. (IPG) was established in 2013 to provide for Myanmar’s energy needs through hydropower and related projects. Currently, IPG has the capability to work on a range of projects, including power development programs, power generation services, dam and reservoir construction, civil works, energy-related services, and construction, both in the public and private sectors.

IGE has been working in the hydropower industry since 2005.

A few notable investment projects include the Mong Ton, Hutgyi, NaoPha, and Mantong Hydropower Projects along the Thanlwin River and the Ngaw Chan Hka Hydropower Project along the Ngaw Chan Hka River, which IGE has been working on in partnership with several international partners, such as China Three Gorges Development Corporation (CTG), Sinohydro Corporation, Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGATi), Hydrochina Corporation, and YEIG International Co., Ltd. Additionally, IGE has worked on electrical and mechanical (E&M) equipment supply installation and construction for the Yeywa Dam, Phyu, Shwe Gyin, and Thahtay projects as well as tunneling in Thahtay. With its establishment, IPG became the representative for IGE with regard to these projects and absorbed all the related hydropower expertise.

IPG has also established a joint venture company with Razel Bec of France named IPGRB. This company was formed to build underground headrace tunnels in Upper Yeywa.

Objectives

  • To be a major provider of power in Myanmar and help fulfill the nation’s energy needs by delivering sustainable, international-standard integrated services, products, and solutions that meet the people’s needs.
  • To provide expert solutions to Myanmar’s infrastructure needs, especially concerning the development of key infrastructure related to the hydropower sector and marine infrastructure such as of tunnels, ports, jetties, and waterways.
  • To provide maintenance and upgrading services at existing power plants.

Future Plans

IPG aims to extend its business to include the development of mini and medium hydropower plants, renewable energy projects, and other related infrastructure projects, such as the construction of tunnels, ports, jetties, and waterways.

Work Force

IPG currently employs 68 full-time professionals across various departments, including engineering, project development, business development, marketing and operations, administration, and finance. IPG also hires contract workers for projects on an as-needed basis. IPG staff members are actively involved in local and international seminars, workshops, conferences, and trainings hosted by organizations such as the Myanmar Engineering Society (MES), the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce (UMFCCI), MYANCOLD, EuroMoney and the World Hydropower Conference held by IHA, among others. All staff members also have the opportunity to join English language classes. IPG is also a registered member of the IFC Hydropower Developers Working Group, Myanmar National Committee on Large Dams (MYANCOLD), and the Myanmar Hydropower Society (MHS).
